Common Questions & Answers

What do the Knights do?

Naturally, action at the local level reflects the needs of the local communities. A few examples from our current activities in Surrey include:

  • a weekly soup kitchen during the winter for the street-people of London.
  • help for the occupants of "Cardboard City",supplying them with good, clean clothing and the like.
  • supporting St Raphael’s Hospice with £28,000 from fund-raising events.
  • organising a series of talks by leading experts on issues of concern to all Christians.
  • erecting outdoor cribs and posters to remind us all that Christmas is more than parties and presents.
  • supporting homes for the young homeless such as Emmaus House in Aldershot.
  • paying for disabled youngsters to go to Lourdes.
  • helping our parish priests in any way we can.

What do the Knights do nationally?

In response to this or that disaster in the world or legislation passed by Parliament which is contrary to the Church’s teaching, have you ever thought - "What are they doing about that?". The Knights are set up to do something about these problems by of our commitment to the virtues of Charity and Unity. We love our fellow human beings and we work together for the common cause.

Current projects include:

  • in order to celebrate 2000 years of Christianity, we have mounted a 3-year programme to sink 2000 water wells in the Third World with our partners CAFOD and SCIAF.
  • we are lobbying MPs, ministers and public figures about issues of great concern to Christians – euthanasia, cloning, abortion, human rights – what the Pope calls ‘the culture of death’ in the modern society.
  • we are helping the SPUC to organise the Pro-Life Chain around London.
  • we organise annual national sports competitions, conferences and pilgrimages for young people.

Is it all work?

No, we have an active social programme – dinner dances, parties, race nights, etc.
Members and their families are visited regularly in sickness and health. When our members die we pray for them, have Masses said for them and look after their widows. We help one another with employment if this is within our power.
