Challenge

Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc. (MMC) is a global professional services firm, headquartered in New York City with businesses in insurance brokerage, risk management, reinsurance services, talent management, investment advisory, and management consulting. Its four main operating companies are Guy Carpenter, Marsh, Mercer, and Oliver Wyman Group. With an annual revenue approaching US$17 billion and 76,000 colleagues worldwide, MMC helps clients navigate an increasingly dynamic and complex environment through four market-leading businesses. Marsh is a global leader in insurance broking and risk management solutions, with over 35,000 colleagues operating in more than 130 countries.

Marsh uses a team approach to address its clients’ risk management and insurance needs. Each client relationship is coordinated by a client executive, who draws from its many industry and risk specialties to assemble the resources to analyse, measure, and help manage multiple risks.

The main purpose of this project was to create a new tool for the company: The Real Estate Tool, that will replace three existing applications: the French Patrimoine application, the Marsh UK MPS (Marsh Property System) application and the JLT UK iRealEstate application. Some of these applications were built around 20 years ago and based on outdated technologies, such as Oracle Forms that are not maintained by the provider anymore.

The real estate department needed a reliable tool in order to address their work/tasks properly. This new client facing application is key to address the real estate regional market in the context of RFPs.

Solution

One Beyond implemented a solution that includes a microservices architecture in NodeJS relaying on RabbitMQ messages communication.

The system also communicates with the Marsh Eurosys application through a Spazio file transfer tool to obtain business data from other applications that are within Marsh’s business processes. In future, those applications will be replaced by MRE.
